How to get here

Carnegie Mellon’s campus is located approximately five miles east of downtown Pittsburgh in a section of the city called Oakland.

The Pittsburgh International Airport is 22 miles (approximately 45 minutes driving time) from the Carnegie Mellon campus. Once you arrive at the Pittsburgh International Airport, there are several transportation options to bring you to campus or to your hotel:

  • Ride Sharing Apps. The pick up location for Uber, Lyft, and zTrip is located outside Baggage Claim Door #4. The fare to Oakland is approximately $30-40.
  • Super Shuttle. Super Shuttle (800-258-3826) serves the Pittsburgh International Airport and the hotels in Oakland. The charge is approximately $25 one way. You can make reservations online or in person at the airport. The depot is located behind the escalator near the luggage pick-up (US Airways) and car rental agencies. The Shuttle collects passengers all day and night. Check with the depot when you arrive for the departure times.
  • Taxi service. Taxicab is the most expensive way to make the trip. (Yellow Taxi Cab: 412-321-8100). The fare to Oakland is approximately $60. Cabs are generally freely available and advance reservation is not necessary.
  • Bus. The Port Authority of Allegheny County provides bus service to and from Pittsburgh International Airport.  A one-way fare to or from the airport is $2.75 cash or $2.50 with a ConnectCard.  The route to Carnegie Mellon on the 28X bus typically takes an hour.

If you want to come by train, the Amtrak Train Station (412-471-6172), located at 1100 Liberty Avenue, is a beautiful architectural landmark in downtown Pittsburgh and just four miles from campus. For more information on rates and schedules, please call 1-800-872-7245.
